The Association of Igbo Youths, has called on all Igbos in the country to ignore the June 8 sit-at-home order issued by Movement for Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB). Reacting to the directive in Onitsha, the National Chairman of Association of Igbo Youths, Mr Chimezie Ikunne said MASSOB had no authority to issue such an order in a nation where there were three levels of government comprising federal, state and local governments which govern the people.

He said: “MASSOB has no authority or constitutional power to stop people from going about their normal businesses when the organisation does not provide anything to assist even the hungry ones who have little or nothing to eat.

“Time has gone when the Igbos were deceived into believing that MASSOB was working for their interest and up till now, nobody has seen any achievement recorded by the group and they want to disturb people again on the pretext that they have command over the Igbo race.”

He noted with dismay that during the last census in the country, MASSOB ordered the Igbos to shun the census officers and refuse to be counted, a situation, which he said caused the population figure of the South-East geo-political zone to drop drastically.

He accused the National Leader of MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike of setting up the organization to serve his selfish interest and not the interest of the Igbos.
