Spokesman of the President-elect, Bayo Onanuga, has vowed not to apologize to Igbos over a tribalistic comment he made on Twitter. Onanuga had in a tweet warned Igbos not to ever interfere in Lagos governorship election.
“Let 2023 be the last time of Igbo interference in Lagos politics. Let there be no repeat in 2027. Lagos is like Anambra, Imo, any Nigerian state. It is not No Man’s Land, not Federal Capital Territory. It is Yoruba land. Mind your business,” he tweeted.
Following public backlash, Onanuga stated that he will not apologize. He wrote: “Let me make myself abundantly clear: the views I express on Twitter are my personal views. “I don’t owe anyone any apology for addressing the existential threats of our people. I am after all, first of all a Yoruba, before being a Nigerian.”

Rubbish. Lagos is nothing without the natural resources you are stealing from the south east and south south . Why are the real Yorubas in Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti states not asking the Igbos to leave Yorubaland? Why Lagos?

Niki, if i ask you to show us one social media comment or opinion where a confirmed Igbo man or woman said derogatory things about all Yoruba's or about Lagos, you may struggle to find one. APC took you guys for a ride and you willingly followed because they played on your weaknesses. You got emotional because they made you believe that it is now Igbo vs Yoruba. GRV is not an Igbo man. No Igbo man contested in the Lagos Governorship election. All they did was support the Yoruba man that was contesting and that they were most comfortable with. No time to be neither hot nor cold, its time to say things as it is. APC propagandists did a wonderful job of planting the ethnic divide seed and you all fell for it. Please, quote one confirmed Igbo person that said those things. As for the popular saying that Lagos is a no mans land, it was first said by a popular Yoruba Politician (Find out who). In all of this, what APC succeeded in doing is whipping up the sentiment of those that are weak in mind to have that mob action against Igbo's and ultimately prevent them from voting for the particular Yoruba man of their choice since we all know that there was no Igbo man on that Lagos State Gubernatorial ballot. As for succeeding in harsh conditions, Igbo's have been there, done that. Its only when others go through it that I can include them. Its not about theory, but practical.
