Police have arrested three individuals linked to a series of housebreakings and the theft of gold and other valuables in Abuja. The announcement was made by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, during a press briefing in the capital.

According to Adejobi, the arrests followed a thorough investigation by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT). The primary suspect has been identified as a fish trader from the Kado fish market.

Adejobi detailed that the suspects had targeted multiple homes in the Lugbe area, successfully breaking into three before attempting a fourth. They managed to enter by scaling a fence and using a motor jack to widen the bars on the burglary-proof windows. Inside, they forcibly opened a safe with a hammer and chisel, discovering cash, documents, and gold.

“The primary suspect later contacted a buyer to sell the stolen items, netting over ₦60 million from the sale,” Adejobi revealed.

In a related crackdown, IRT operatives have also apprehended 16 individuals involved in the theft of motorcycles and tricycles in Plateau State. These suspects were reported to have operated at night, stealing unattended vehicles and impersonating police officers to confiscate motorcycles. They used fake identity cards to execute their schemes, then sold the stolen vehicles to a network of receivers.

The police have recovered eight motorcycles and eleven tricycles from the gang. In the last six weeks, law enforcement has arrested 1,284 suspects across various crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, and homicide. Among those arrested, 307 were linked to armed robbery, 296 to kidnapping, 301 to homicide, 176 to rape and defilement, and 204 to cult-related activities.

Police operatives also recovered 284 firearms, 6,702 rounds of ammunition, and 107 vehicles during this period. Additionally, 97 kidnapping victims were rescued.

The police have urged the public to report any misconduct by officers, emphasizing the crucial role of community cooperation in upholding law and order.
