The Adamawa State Government has commenced payment of the newly approved N70,000 minimum wage to its workers. This marks the fulfillment of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri's promise to implement the wage increase starting in August.

DAILY POST confirmed on Saturday that the new wage was included in this month’s salary, which was disbursed on Friday, August 23. The 23rd of each month is the regular payday for state government employees in Adamawa.

State workers expressed their satisfaction with the new payment structure. Amos Tumba, a civil servant, said, "I can confirm to you that the salary increase has been effected and I received it." Another government employee, Amma Yohanna, added, "Yes, they have paid, and it’s the new package."

The likelihood of the wage increase being implemented this month was hinted at earlier in the week. On Monday, August 19, Governor Fintiri assured labor leaders of the state’s readiness to fulfill the promise during a meeting at the Government House in Yola. This assurance was later communicated to the media by the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Fashe.

Fashe noted that while state government employees would benefit from the new minimum wage starting this month, workers at the local government level would have to wait until September 2024 for the increase to take effect.
