The Katsina State Police Command has arrested three suspected gunrunners in a significant operation that led to the seizure of a large cache of ammunition. The arrests were made in the early hours of August 29 in Dutsinma Local Government Area, according to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Aliyu.
Addressing the press on Friday, Aliyu disclosed that the suspects were apprehended while attempting to deliver 740 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition to armed bandits in Yauni Forest, Ummadau village, Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had received the ammunition from a contact in Nasarawa State, with the intent to deliver it to Harisu, a notorious bandit kingpin currently on the run. The arrested individuals have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the operation and identified Harisu as the mastermind behind the scheme.
Aliyu emphasized the ongoing efforts of the police to track down additional suspects connected to the gunrunning network. “This achievement demonstrates our commitment to combating armed banditry and gunrunning in Katsina State and beyond,” he stated.
The arrest marks a significant step in the state’s fight against the proliferation of arms and the rising threat of banditry in the region.
