A tragic single-vehicle accident on the Mabushi - Nicon Junction Expressway in Abuja on Friday, January 3, 2024, has claimed one life and left two others injured.
The accident occurred when the driver of a Toyota RAV4, identified by the vehicle registration number ABJ 914 PH, reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road. The vehicle then somersaulted after uprooting palm trees planted along the center of the road.
One of the occupants died on the spot, while the other two, including the driver, sustained varying degrees of injury. Another passenger escaped unscathed.
Emergency response teams, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), and the Nigerian Police, quickly arrived at the scene, securing the wreckage and providing assistance. The body of the deceased was taken to the morgue, while the injured were rushed to Maitama General Hospital for treatment.
A survivor, who wished to remain anonymous, placed the blame for the accident on the driver, accusing him of falling asleep behind the wheel.
The scene of the crash drew the attention of numerous passersby who came to offer their sympathies to the victims.
