Well, for me, i prefer such gift is given to the needy. In the time of the Israelite, God stipulated the giving of tithe which is one tenth of produce. Firstly, this is in the past and Christ have come to abolish most of those laws by his death. logical, its almost impossible to find a very poor person so tithe kinda was compulsory but these days, where almost half the world population at outa job and many find it even to eat a one meal a day, how can one pay tithe? But in the time of Jesus and his disciples, there was nothing like tithe instead at 2 Corinthians 9:7, Paul think whats best is a " cheerful giving". not compulsory as in the Moses law but " as each one wishes to give"
However, the church leaders in Jesus times, make it compulsory for the people to sacrifice whatever help or assistance they want to give to their parents or some needy persons to God. But Jesus thinks this is wrong. Read Matthew 15: 3-6 (very Important).
Therefore, at times it is good to be flexible not insisting on traditions!
Now if you have 1000 Naira to give for offering on Sunday and then suddenly one of ur family member falls ill, would u insist that u must offer that money in church instead of saving first ur relations? perhaps thats all the money u have left?...food for thought!

na  waoo  THIS  THING  IS  VERY  DIFFICUT  TO  UNDERSTAND,,  THE  POINT  IS,  MANY  PPL  ARE  MIXING  OLD  TESTAMENT  WITH  THE  NEW  ONE,,  WE  ARE  NOT  LIVING  UNDER  THE  LAW  BUT  UNDER  GRACE  JESUS  DID  THAT  FOR  US  OK  JESUS  ALWAY  TALK  ABOUT  THE  POOR  HE  CARE  FOR  THE  POOR  TELL  ME  ONE  PLACE  WERE  JESUS  TALK  ABOUT  TITHE  GIVING,,,,,

Pls my it's better and best to pay ur tithe in the church & not to give to d needy. Mal.3:8-15. U don't give ur tithe to the needy, even if pastor tought u dat stand on Mal.3:8-15 & tell him. Remember also dat there are some many pastors who don't even know what Tithe is and neither do they pay. They thought it's only memebers dat will pay tithe. Tithe cannot be changed for anything. The Bible said '' And you shall Know the truth and the truth shall set u free. Let no man deceive you. Read Mal.3:8-15. Even givers lack.
Despite the fact dat it's said dat givers never, I want to let u know dat Anybody who gives all he has including himself but fail to pay his Tithe will LACK. Thanks

Malachi 3:10 - Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that [there shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it].
   Please do not confuse tithe with offering .They are 2 different issues.Above is the word of God simple.10% of your income belongs to God.You can do anything with the 90% like helping whosoever and giving to charity.Where you fellowship and being blessed give 10% of your income.Let me also warn here that whatever it is done with that one you took to the store house  is left to those who administered it .In the event of any misuse or mismanagement,those people will account to God.You are giving to God not man .Have that faith.You cannot spend your tithe.It is not your responsibility. Except you don't want to give at all.Any believer that refuse to give tithe things may be tight with that fellow financially.Give as unto God.That is my opinion.
